African states have undergone a significant digital transformation. The transformation is attributed to an increase in investment in cloud technology and data center. The two have helped in tapping in the uncovered digital technology in the continent. This came out during the 2018 TMT Finance Africa Conference which took place on March 15th. The conference took place in Cape Town SA. The continent has invested heavily in cloud computing infrastructure. It has also invested highly in the data center and shared fiber network infrastructure in the continent.
The 2018 TMT Finance Africa Conference had panelists from various organizations. They included Teraco, Rack Center, DLA Piper, PAIX, and MainOne. The talk was based on continuous growth and investment within data center market and telecom sector. This will help to achieve the goal of increasing ICT adoption within the continent. MainOne invested N12 billion in its Lekki data center in the recent past via MDXi Data Centre. This was aimed at increasing its capacity to 600 all the way from 300. This makes the firm as the leading data center in the whole of West Africa.
The investment is part of MainOne’s target to invest $300 million more. This will improve communication infrastructure across West Africa. This is to take place in a period of more than ten years. The company aims at remaining the leading broadband initiator in West Africa. Moreover, it is investing in data centers and infrastructure across West Africa. This is aimed at improving the broadband activities. The company has made itself as the most preferred provider of data center and connectivity services in a period of 8 years. This has helped businesses in the West African region. Moreover, it has helped the global content providers to easily access their subscribers in the region. The company has increased its network area. Currently, it is offering services in eight countries in West Africa. The countries include Ghana and Nigeria.
