TechInAfrica – The 2nd cohort of the Land Accelerator sets to kick off on September 7 -12, 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will bring together entrepreneurs from seven countries across Africa. The event is free and the organizers will cover the travel costs for participants.
The Land Accelerator is a 6-day program aims at training and mentoring entrepreneurs across Africa that include various activities, including business education, technical lectures, and a Demo Day where participants will pitch their projects in front of prospective investors.
The program is aimed at entrepreneurs in the areas of climate-smart agriculture, sustainable forestry, reforestation, non-timber forest products, and other similar activities. Selected participants will get access to mentorship and the opportunity to meet other entrepreneurs and secure capital to fund their businesses.
The applications for the program was closed on July 8. The organizer allowed participants to submit their applications both in English and French. They had to complete the entries no more than 10 minutes on F6S that required them to register using email or social media account. Only 15 applicants will be selected to join the program.
On the first cohort last year, entrepreneurs were able to increase their confidence. Two businesses received a $50,000 and 10,000 investment each, based on their business plan and pitch.
The Land Accelerator is an initiative aligned with African countries’ efforts to bring 100 million hectares of land into restoration through the African Forest Landscapes Restoration Initiative (AFR100) and the Bonn Challenge.
The program charges no fee to participants due to the financial support from the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
