The Rwanda FintecHub is supported by the Rwanda ICT Chamber in partnership with UNCDF Rwanda, Kigali Innovation City, and the Rwanda Government. Now on its second cohort, the FintecHub supports early-stage companies, by offering market access, technical assistance, flexible grants pegged on the achievement of milestones, mentorship, and partners who can accelerate the growth of startups.
The second crop of startups will be selected through a competitive application process examining the level of growth, scalability, sustainability, and level of inclusivity offered by digital financial solutions under development.
Alex Ntale, CEO of ICT Chamber said the intention was “to support our startups” so they can “grow their customer base and raise money to scale up.”
UNCDF Rwanda Programme Coordinator, Roselyne Uwamahoro pointed out how the FintecHub is part of UNCDF’s Rwanda goals to “nurture a culture of innovation to help fintechs.”
The first cohort of 4 fintech startups successfully went through the six-month acceleration programme. All four startups received technical support and milestone-pegged grants of $5000 and $20000 to improve their businesses post-training. They were also linked with mentor networks on leadership, strategy, talent management, customer acquisition, and impact investment.
