TechInAfrica – Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival 2019 will take place on August 30th – September 8th in Johannesburg. The annual event aims at exploring and celebrating the technology as well as the creativity of Africans to their continent.
This year’s festival will run under the theme “Own Your Force”. Digital makers on the continent are invited to show their talents and creativities. It is a collaborative event by Wits University’s Tshimologong Innovation Precinct and partners in the Braamfontein area.
Attendees can expect a fresh lineup of digital creativity, including virtual reality, gaming, cinema, and animation. Additionally, it also has special focuses on artificial intelligence, blockchain, protection of intellectual and creativity, amongst others.
“Fak’ugesi acts as a platform that brings together diverse digital and technology sectors to collaborate and share skills in digital media and technology innovation. This year’s theme “Own Your Force” centers on an African vision of the future of digital creativity by asking; who owns our digital value chain? How do we protect our creative and cultural equity in the digital world? How do we value our contributions to digital culture in an African economy? Where are the threats and the opportunities for culture and technology in Africa in a world driven by market interests?” said Dr. Tegan Bristow, Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival’s Director, as quoted from Africa.com.
The 6th edition of Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival 2019 will be highlighted by a collaborative conference with the Goethe-Institute’s Creative Entrepreneurship office followed by creative challenges and digital entrepreneurship on the 4th Industrial Revolution in Africa.
Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival 2019 will work together with the British Council Southern African Arts, bringing up to 15 digital artists and storytellers across Africa in theColabNow project. Furthermore, in partnership with Tshimologong Precinct, it will also host Digital Lab Africa competition winners who concluded five creative digital startups in Gaming, Animation, VR, Web Creation, and Digital Media.
