TechInAfrica – ITEC and Oasis Uganda are planning to build an IT classroom at the Oasis Academy.
An IT container classroom is underway at the Oasis Academy, located in the Musoto Village in Eastern Uganda. The classroom will be a joint effort between ITEC, a tech service provider, and Oasis Uganda, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
ITEC hopes to set up a fully furnished IT classroom with PCs, monitors, a server, projector, keyboards, and mice as well as a good broadband connection. The technology will be made available to the 150 children being educated at the Oasis Academy in Musoto. The company noted that many of the children and adults in Musoto have never actively used technology before and this explains why the project marks a major milestone for the village.
Alvin Muhwezi, Country Director for Oasis Uganda Charitable Trust said that their approach to ITEC was due to the support ITEC had given to their academies in the UK and that ITEC continues to be a valued partner. ITEC understands the shared challenges faced in running academies like the one in Musoto, which is having recently connected to the National Grid, and ITEC had also worked hard to find solutions that fit for the children and the broader community.
“In the future, we are hoping to expand the IT program to encourage adults from the village to learn new digital skills for personal development and possible future employment,” Muhwezi added.
“Learning IT skills has been incredibly valuable for me and helped me explore new career paths that would otherwise be inaccessible. William Edibu, an IT support volunteer for Oasis Uganda, said.
An IT support volunteer from Oasis Uganda, William Edibu admitted that learning IT skills has been proved incredibly valuable for him and that it helped him explore new career paths that would otherwise be inaccessible.
“Working alongside Oasis and ITEC has given me a great opportunity to help children and adults develop new skills, and the new IT classroom will be a valuable asset to Musoto,” Edibu added.
