In 2017, 3 Egyptian entrepreneurs, Mostafa Kandil, Ahmed Sabbah, and Mahmoud Nouh founded an app-based bus transport system called SWVL. The startup allows riders headed in the same direction sharing bus trips for a set price without surge pricing. The service offers a reliable, convenient, yet affordable bus in the MENA region. The launch of the startup was meant to help riders arrive at their destinations by casting aside worries over rush hours, bad traffic, or parking.

Since its inception, the company has been raising millions of dollars which have brought its valuation to $157 million. As one of the most valued ventures capital-backed startups in Egypt, SWVL has formed a strategic partnership with huge companies like automobile Ford and BRCK, Nairobi, Kenya-based integrated hardware and software company. Following a report released by the UN, the major inclinations in urbanization indicated that by 2030, 60 percent of the planet’s population will be living in the cities. This growth will create a big demand for transportation service, surely, and also a $5.4 T economic opportunity. SWVL is on the way to seize the opportunity as the startup is currently enlarging its business landscape for a globalized scope.
