CcHub Launches an EdTech Center of Excellence in TASUED Ijebu Ode

TechInAfrica – Nigerian Co-creation Hub (CcHub) based in Lagos has launched an EdTech Center of Excellence in Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu Ode. The launch is part of CcHub’s efforts to make a significant contribution to Africa’s education sectors.  CcHub chose to invest in TASUED because it is the only university of education in Nigeria and the West Africa region.

“We found out that technology is embedded in the way the university sees the future of education. It’s an institution that has an internally built school management software on which all its activities run and can be tracked. In all, they have the right attitude and culture which is worthy of a center of excellence in EdTech,” said CcHub’s Bosun Tijani explaining the reason for the investment.

Tijani further explained that their partnerships may not only focus on developing education but also to invest in other institutions that leverage innovation in important technologies.

“We’re very interested in building talents. Universities play a major role in the innovation ecosystem. Although it’s not yet the case in Africa, we’re working towards contributing to its growth,” Tijani added.

Tijani said that the EdTech hub aims at supporting the training of teachers on leveraging technology as well as to contribute in focus research and to incubate ideas that can be converted to startups in the country and region.

“We will link the hub up to innovation networks across the continent and also give scholarships to a Masters and Ph.D. student once every academic year. It is possible this number increases with time.”

CcHub has collaborated with renown brands including Facebook to support Africa’s tech ecosystem through incubation and acceleration programs. By far, the hub has supported more than 90 ventures for the past five years of its inception.

Last month, CcHub acquired Kenya’s tech hub, iHub as part of its expansion effort into the country.
