TechInAfrica – Technology is often intertwined with Sub-Saharan Africa’s future mostly due to its potential in bringing growth in various fields—economic, infrastructure development, and many more. What’s driving this growth, people might ask. The answer would be the youth of today’s society acknowledges their impact regarding technology sustainability for the regions—effectively putting the future in their respective hands.
David Owumi, Founder of Inspire, Innovate and Influence event professed that the young people of Africa are dynamic, forward-looking and best positioned to find innovative solutions to local challenges through the use of science and technology. With this, the projection of Africa’s future is brighter than before and the past circumstances which saw witness to the youths’ greatness further emphasizes this idea.
“The community aims to share and be abreast of innovative ideas and projects. The community is hinged on research and innovative projects,” he added. It’s a stark, plain sight to see that the continuous pioneering innovations are constantly improving the lives of African citizens bit by bit. Social entrepreneurs, going together with researchers and start-up geniuses, are solving real world problems one-by-one.
Furthermore, Owumi also underlined that sustainability will serve as a new culture, and technology will play a substantial part in driving Africa’s sustainable development and human capital development. To incubate this growth, youths of Africa must also constantly up their skills in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in order to gain an edge against foreign competitors.
Students are also encouraged to nurture their respective senses of creativity, innovation, and problem-solving strength. This notion is based on the goal to reflect some relevancy between today’s curriculum and the nations’ future. Then again, this responsibility isn’t for teachers and educational institutions alone to bear—parents would need to play their roles, too.
