Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Nigeria’s minister for Minister of Communications and Digital Economy approved the development and release of a National Identity Number slip and an accompanying mobile app. This is part of the federal government’s policy of easing the process of attaining NIN while linking it to SIM. NIN was allocated to the National Identity Management Commission and Nigerian Communications Commission for joint implementation.
N20 and N40 verification fees charged on both individuals and mobile operator networks were also waived. This new technological drive using an app offers a secure channel for Nigerians and legal residents who can easily verify and authenticate their documents on the go using their smartphones. Adopting a technological approach that supports the National Identity Number (NIN) aligns with government policy aimed at creating a National Digital Economy Policy for a digitized Nigeria.
Within the app one can access other government services including those of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, NCC, National Health Insurance Scheme, and the Federal Road Safety Commission.
You can download the app on Google Playstore for Android users and iOS for iPhone users. Details on how to download the improved NIN slip are at the NIMC website (https://dashboard.nimc.gov.ng)
