TechInAfrica – Funding of $1.3b has been rolled out to succeed the COVID-19 vaccinations program in a partnership between Mastercard Foundation and CDC Africa.
The target is to get 50 million people vaccinated in the course of the next three years.
“We expect this initiative is an opportunity to unlock the economic potential of the health sector and create jobs and opportunities for thousands of people so they too can begin the recovery, CEO and president of the Mastercard Foundation Reeta Roy said.
Dr. John Nkengasong, director of the Africa CDC mentioned inclusivity as an integral part of the vaccine, saying “Ensuring inclusivity in vaccine access, and building Africa’s capacity to manufacture its own vaccines, is not just good for the continent, it’s the only sustainable path out of the pandemic and into a health-secure future.”
The two organizations also stated that part of the fund will be utilized to support vaccine manufacturing by making human capital development a priority.
