These three companies, ThriveAgric of Nigeria, DigicCow of Kenya, and Brastorne Enterprises of Botswana, will each get a grant of US$1.5 million and access to professional advisors.
Heifer International runs the AYuTe Africa Challenge, which helps agri-tech innovators on the continent. This is part of Heifer’s mission to help young entrepreneurs grow their businesses by making tech solutions that are easy to use.
DigiCow is an agri-tech company that uses digital tools to modernise production on small-scale dairy farms. ThriveAgric is a fast-growing startup that increases farmer incomes and output, and Brastorne Enterprises has made digital technology for loop feature phones that are closing Africa’s rural digital divide.
As winners of the 2022 AYuTe Africa Challenge, the three businesses will get a total of US$1.5 million in prizes and ongoing help from a team of professional advisors to help them turn their funding into an ambitious plan for growth.
Heifer International’s senior vice president of Africa programs, Adesuwa Ifedi, said, “At a time when Africa is facing food problems that have never been seen before, it is so inspiring to see these young African champions so focused on an agriculture-led future that gives farmers the innovations they need to succeed.”
In 2021, we set up this competition and asked young people in Africa to develop ideas to give our farmers the positive change they need. DigiCow, Brastorne, and ThriveAgric are all way more ready than they need to be.
