Africa’s leading biodigester company, Sistema.bio, has made significant strides in expanding its innovative technology solutions across West and Southern Africa. With a mission to address energy challenges, promote environmental sustainability, and support access to affordable, clean, and modern cooking solutions, Sistema.bio is now positioned as the largest biodigester company on the African continent.
In a strategic partnership with Engie Access, an off-grid energy services company, Sistema.bio has introduced biogas digesters in Zambia and Mozambique. This collaboration, supported by the Modern Clean Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA), aims to reach over 10,000 small-holder farmers in the two countries.
Expanding its footprint in Zimbabwe, Sistema.bio has teamed up with Lanforce Energy, an implementation partner, with the goal of installing over 2,500 biodigesters in the country within the next four years. This initiative underscores Sistema.bio’s commitment to addressing the energy challenges faced by African communities and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
In West Africa, Sistema.bio has forged partnerships with Farmerline in Ghana and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in Nigeria. The first biodigesters were successfully installed in Nigeria in July 2024, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards sustainable agriculture and renewable energy adoption in the region.
Madrin Maina, Sistema.bio’s Director in Africa, highlighted the potential of the company’s biodigester technology to create climate-smart energy solutions for small-holder farmers. “Sistema.bio’s biodigester technology represents a rapidly scalable, locally tailored solution that has the potential to empower millions of people in communities across Africa,” Maina remarked.
The benefits generated by the use of biodigester technology contribute to 9 out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Climate Action, and Life On-Land.
Sistema.bio’s expansion across West and Southern Africa showcases the company’s commitment to driving sustainable development and addressing the energy and agricultural challenges faced by communities across the continent. By partnering with leading green energy organizations, Sistema.bio is well-positioned to continue its growth and make a lasting impact on Africa’s sustainable future.
