FibreCo has finally launched its dark fibre link along the N3 from Johannesburg to Durban. The link will also join one of FibreCo’s first customers, SEACOM and EASSy.
Established in 2009, FibreCo tries to give direct access to infrastructure as they try to minimize the cost of connectivity to their customers. It provides its services to government offices, ISPs and local operators.
The CEO of FibreCo, Simon Harvey said that the company’s continued investment will help it respond to its client’s needs. The link will also connect other sites such as Pietermaritzburg, Germiston, Heidelberg, Warden, Harrismith, Ladysmith, and Estcourt. Moreover, the cable landing station will be located at Mtunzini.
Moreover, the N3 strategic link will give the shortest route connecting regional data centres. More than 59 points country-wide will be covered including East London, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Durban and Port Elizabeth. The route will cover 4,000Km and will consist of high-speed optical equipment, tower and hosting facilities, carrier-grade Ethernet equipment and underground fibre routes.
The Head of Technology at FibreCo, Venita Engelbrecht also said that the investment will provide access to redundant dark fibre infrastructure hence making multiple Tbps of Internet connectivity. The improved connectivity will also enable FibreCo’s clients to connect and lease dark fibre by utilizing their own optical equipment. Besides, the clients will be able to manage their networks and allow for flexibility. Furthermore, the customers can also use the 100Gbps state-of-the-art internet which connects cable landing stations and key data centres.
