TechInAfrica – UNIDO’s Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) Tokyo has committed to strengthening its international engagement through many programs. Its international engagement is called TICAD7 and currently cooperates with Africa.
Regarding the cooperation with Africa, Hiroshi Kuniyoshi as the UNIDO Deputy to the Director-General remarked: “UNIDO operates numerous programs for African and Japanese companies,”
UNIDO is a reputable broker for innovative technologies or Japanese firms and Africa’s increasing demand; together, we can ensure that Japanese industries contribute to the inclusive and sustainable development of Africa,” he continued.
The dialog: Africa and TICAD7 was held in Tokyo and attended by hundreds high-level participants, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) among many other participants. These high-level participants joined the dialog in order to show support to the TICAD7.
The Head of UNIDO ITPO Tokyo, Yuko Yasanuga talked about their future plan and the program with Africa, “Next year, the ITPO will focus its strategy, and especially its Delegate and Advisor program, on the introduction of Japanese technologies,” he said. “As mentioned by the African Development Corps, I believe that Japanese businesses should think of Africa as a reliable partner for achieving mutual prosperity, and inclusive and sustainable industrialization will be crucial for TICAD7.”
Hiroshi Kuniyoshi said in his concluding speech at the conference: “Japanese investment and training opportunities are now available in 54 African countries. UNIDO looks forward to providing more business intelligence and networking support to foster Japan-Africa cooperation, which in turn will contribute to TICAD7, and by extension to unfolding the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa (IDDA3) and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 9 on inclusive and sustainable industrialization, innovation and infrastructure. “
