TechInAfrica – The Ghanaian Government through the Ministry of Communications announced its intention to fight against cybercrime in Ghana’s digital sphere by setting up the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Ghana’s Communications Minister explained that the CSA will report directly to the office of Ghana’s President as well as find more sources of funding to aid their work.
The announcement was made after the approval of the Budapest Convention. The Budapest Convention is a global convention on cybercrime which aims at expediting international collaboration to fight against cybercrime through prevention, investigations, as well as prosecutions of cybercrimes.
The Minister also said that the Ghanaian Government is planning to launch a Cyber Security Center that will be equipped with technical tools and training in order to widen the knowledge about Ghana’s IT infrastructure.
In accordance with the plan, several sectors are encouraged to create a Computer Emergency Response Center that will be connected to the National Emergency Respond Center under the Cyber Security Center. This will help to identify and eliminate cyberthreats quickly and easily.
In order to achieve the goal, the Ministry of Communications is partnering with the Bank of Ghana by developing cybersecurity guidelines for the banking sectors and other sectors.
The plan is also followed by the Government’s plan to introduce a new Cyber Security Law aims at addressing all cybersecurity-related issues such as child online protection, cyber positive practices, amongst others.
