TechInAfrica – Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one that has gained much popularity among many organizations in the world and its deployment is predicted to keep increasing in the future. AI is proven to bring much effectivity that leads to business growth. AI can do certain tasks faster and smarter than human beings for such a long time.

Vian Chinner, the CEO of Xineoh has made a prediction about two AI trends that will happen this year—the rapid broadening of AI and how it will create thousands of jobs. These two trends are the topics that rarely mentioned by people when talking about AI.

These trends will change how we usually do things. For some work that can be taken over by AI, it can save more time and spare it to other tasks to optimize productivity. Furthermore, it can also help to reduce the unemployment rate in Africa, especially unemployed young generations.

In terms of broadening of AI, it means how fast AI can masters many tasks with its broad algorithm. One best example of this is Google’s ‘one algorithm to rule them all’. This algorithm beat purpose-built algorithms in some fields by the end of 2017. And every six months, AI’s strengths doubles and its broad algorithms are predicted to outperform a large number of purpose-built algorithms by the end of this year.

Many people seem very pessimistic about how AI can create jobs opportunities. People predict that many people will lose their jobs and reduce incomes. However, Chinner said that AI has the potential to create more jobs than it destroys. He is sure that it creates many multiple more jobs than many people would predict.

In South Africa, the unemployment rate stands at 27% and the country is struggling to find the solution for this problem. The main reasons for the issue are poor education system and many people with a lack of qualifications and skills. Chinner noted that even if there are jobs, they are unqualified for them.

Therefore, lowering the unemployment rate in South Africa would be a great contribution to improve the country’s economic growth in which can be done by AI. AI is playing an important role and bringing great potential for society. AI can significantly improve people’s skill, making them more valuable, Chinner said.
