An Appeal by Gambian Startup Farm Fresh for Funding to Facilitate its Expansion

Share

Farm Fresh is a startup which is based in Gambia and was launched in 2014. The startup is the first online fresh food e-commerce platform. Farm Fresh has collaborated with farmer’s all over Gambia to help them in finding a market for their farm produce. The customers are given an opportunity to purchase food on the site and have it delivered to their doorsteps.

Early December 2017, the startup was selected by the CcHub to be among the 15 companies that will participate in its Make-IT accelerator program to be held in 2018. The program is meant to strengthen entrepreneurs’ skills for scaling their innovation and achieving growth, cooperation, and investment readiness. According to Farm Fresh’s Chief executive officer (CEO) Modou NS Njie, participation in the program will help the company meet its growth and expansion targets.

It’s a notable step for the startup to be selected since it will have the opportunity to expand to Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Senegal in a span of five years. The company is mainly looking for funding to help it in achieving its goals. The Fresh Farm decided to fill up the void that was there on the high demand for fresh vegetables and fruits in the Gambia.

The company is the only one offering the online services. It has been slow in its growth although with time many people appreciate the service. The platform is expecting to grow further. The startup is currently operating with 20 farmers and has roughly 300 registered users although that is seen as a small market. The platform adds a 10% markup on discounted products purchased from farmers. Payment is made online, via mobile money, or cash on delivery.
