The African Governance Architecture is a constitutional Act by the AU aiming to promote and protect human rights, consolidate democratic institutions, and champion for good governance and rule of law.
The AU through the AGA secretariat carried out a joint project with Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) dubbed the “Democracy and Governance in Africa- Youth Innovation Challenge” aiming to identify, empower and recognize youth working on digital and non-digital innovations that deliver structurally prevent conflicts by addressing issues of lags in democracy, good governance or promotion of human rights.
The AGA has released their Top 20 selected winners. Young innovators were picked from a pool of diverse submissions. Amb. Salah Hammad, The Head of the AGA Secretariat, noted that the AGA alongside COMESA is a testament of the African youth – who are the greatest asset. She narrated how they received a large number of applications of good quality ideas.
The innovation challenge targets innovation hubs, young innovators, and incubation centers across Africa. This challenge looks for ideas and innovations yet to be tested or implemented with a certain level of success. The innovators and innovations should be based in Africa, however, Africans in the diaspora are welcome to submit their applications of they are Africa-based and address the continent’s challenges.
This year’s submissions were in line with the theme “Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s development”.
