Cassava Technologies, a digital infrastructure company focused on Africa, will begin deploying artificial intelligence software from Nvidia at its data centers in South Africa by June. Following this, the same expansion will take place at facilities in Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria.
The UK-based company said this move is part of its strategy to establish an “AI factory” in Africa, aiming to provide AI-driven computing services to businesses across the continent. In partnership with Nvidia, the world’s leading chip maker, Cassava gains the “advanced computing capabilities necessary to foster Africa’s AI innovation,” according to Strive Masiyiwa, the company’s founder and chairman.
Cassava’s presence across Africa includes a 68,000-mile fiber optic cable network stretching from Cape Town to Cairo, a renewable energy company, and various data centers. Last December, the group secured a $90 million equity investment from the US International Development Finance Corporation, Finland’s Finnfund, and Google.
