TechInAfrica – SA third-largest telecommunications company, Cell C, has launched an Innovation Challenge aimed at SMEs in the ICT sector. The competition will require SME business owners to pitch their ideas to address challenges in South Africa’s ICT sector. The Challenge will give selected SMEs with great solutions/ideas a partnership opportunity, interest-free loans, mentorship, as well as access to work with Cell C as a supplier.
The Cell C Innovation Challenge opened on October 9th and there will be no deadline for submission. However, Cell C initiated that pitch days will be scheduled on October 30th and 31st, 2019. Submitted ideas after the pitching days will still have the chance to get selected for the next period of pitching days.
According to Cell C, they will contact selected applicants at least seven days before the pitch days so that they are able to prepare themselves. Meanwhile, those who aren’t contacted within the period of time should consider their ideas unsuccessful.
Juliet Mhango, Chief Human Capital Development and Transformation Officer at Cell C, said: “We believe in the exponential growth that technology-enabled services can bring to the world of work and play and want to be the catalyst that enables first-stage entrepreneurs to catapult their start-up concepts into businesses.”
She continued, “This challenge not only provides support for up and coming businesses but also sets the stage for technological revolution in the ICT sector while providing a platform for meaningful transformation. There may be more than one successful SMME, so we are hoping that businesses will come out in numbers to provide compelling pitches to us.”
To participate in the challenge, submit your ideas to Cell C’s website. You need to download the application form and other documents, then, follow the steps. Make sure to also check the PDF version of the FAQs for some additional information.
Note: You are allowed to submit more than one idea.
