TechInAfrica – Nowadays, it’s very common to log in on apps or websites using a password. However, the problem is: how to keep a different and complex password on those platforms without being tracked by hackers.

For most of us, keeping the same password for different platforms is the easiest way to do instead of setting up a different one for each site. The thing is, we don’t want to complicate ourselves by memorizing or writing down those passwords. However, once one of these sites is tracked, hackers will try the same information for other sites as well.

Using the same password for every site and platform can cause us a cybersecurity risk. Even though the use of a password is not ideal enough, but there is no other better alternative to use other than using it, especially in Africa.

As mentioned earlier, people don’t want to complicate themselves by memorizing or writing down their passwords. This is the excuses people make the most when it comes to creating a different complex password. However, if you don’t want to address this excuse, it will be difficult to protect yourself from hackers.

If you think it is okay to use the same password for different platforms and websites, you should not complain if someday your bank account goes empty due to a ransomware attack.

The best way to do is to keep a unique password that only you who know it. When you create accounts in different sites, add something you can identify yourself, like your favorite movies or your favorite phrase of a song lyric.

For example, you regularly use Facebook and associates it with your school friends and family, you can use an incident occurred in high school or your family joke name that has always stuck on your mind. It may be long but is hard to guess by hackers.

Additionally, you can also use two-factor authentication to all of your accounts. By using this, you will be required to log in by entering a password and a code emailed or texted to you. This way will help to prevent hackers from accessing your personal account.
