Data Market Start-Ups Get Funding

On 30th November 2017, there was a launch of Data Hack4FI competition by Liquid Telecom in collaboration with Financial Sector Deepening at an innovation hub in Innovation Village. Liquid Telecom had a chance to promote its products to the public at the tech hub found in Ntinda a village in Kampala.

Officials from both Liquid Telecom and Financial Sector Deepening said that the partnership involved Impact to Infinity which is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that focuses on implementing the use of data science in financial inclusion on the African continent. In a notice released on 29th November 2017, the officials said that Liquid Telecom would be offering services to techs through their hub partnerships connectivity and cloud-based products and services aimed at bringing awareness, adopting and usage of Azure Cloud within the continent.

Data services are one of the main platforms that lead to the development of cloud services. Therefore investment in the competition would create value by encouraging usage of clouds and connectivity products. Officials said that the larger share of startups and startup funding will be directed to Fintech startups within Africa and that it’s in their interest to be part of the growth through their infrastructure.

The winning startups from various markets will line up to investors at the Transform Africa summit in 2018. The completion will be launched in other liquid markets such as Rwanda, Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania in the coming months.
