How Datahack 4FI competition Supports Startups in Solving Financial Challenges in Africa

The Datahack 4FI competition will take place in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda and Ghana for qualifiers. The final event will be held in Rwanda in May 2018. The winner will then walk home with $25 000.

Datahack 4FI also provides mentorships and webinars to participants.  The supportive services come from Chris Orwa, Safaricom, Data Scientist and Nanjala Misiko, a Senior Google Industry Analyst. Other benefits comprise of free ‘high-speed internet access’ from Telecoms, cloud-based services coaching entrants at the event.  The main event supporters are cloud experts and Microsoft for data science.

In the recent times, startups development in Africa has realize tremendous improvement in terms science and innovation. Datahack 4FI (Datahack for Financial Inclusion) is innovation-based competition that support financial service providers in the low-income areas. The event constitutes of financial service providers (FSPs) and data enthusiasts to give solutions for real-life problems. The Kenyan MobiTicket won the Datahack 4FI’s first season last year. The innovation allows the platform users to pay and get bust ticket via mobile phones. In addition to booking, the system also permits mobile subscribers to make payments through M-Pesa.

Zimbabwe startups are not allowed to participate in Datahack 4FI competition this year. However, the country can be considered for future entries.  Startups from Zimbabwe can officially take part in the Datahack 4FI Season 3 in 2019 instead.
