Kenya conducts its census after every 10 years. The country also incurred a cost of $83.2 in 2009 during its last census in 2009.
The country plans to hold a pilot census in August 2018. The exercise will require about 300 enumerators packed with an electronic census kit funded by United Nationals Population Fund (UNFPA).
According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the country is currently deterring from the old manual to the digital census. Consequently, Kenya digital census transformation will kick off in 2019 after acquiring 170,000 digital tablets.
Director of KNBS Macdonald Obudho emphasized that the tablets will mimic errors, save time and key in data efficiently. He also said that the system will automatically reject entering of erroneous data.
The digital kits are to be sourced very early 2019 for proper tracking of areas, questionnaires, and maps.
Approximately, the August 2019 census will require $183 million constituting of 170,000 enumerators, and 2,700 ICT supervisors.
