DotAfrica an African domain platform launched in the second week of January 2018. The domain dubbed the people’s domain has a technical name called Top Level Domain (gTLD). The platform operates in the same way as .co.za or .com. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN’s) gave delegation the rights to administer Africa. Registry .africa is the brains behind the development.

According to the .africa team, gTLD was launched for Africa and its people. The launch gives the continent an online hope and keeps its dreams alive. Africans will use their domain to unite their internet family. Both the health, commerce, education and other sectors will have a positive improvement. The launch of gTLD started in South Africa with many roadshows. The roadshow by the .african team will have its climax at the AU headquarters. The headquarters in Ethiopia will host the Heads of States Summit on January 28 and 29 2018.

The drive up Africa campaign began with a send-off media breakfast. The campaign was named flag of Africa. The breakfast meant to bid Dot Africa climbing and driving team a safe journey. The breakfast took place in Pretoria South Africa. Climb the mountain walk will take duration of two weeks at Mount Kilimanjaro. The climbing phase will come to an end by the end of January 2018. The journey across Africa celebrates .africa as an example of Africans working together. Togetherness involves working on a common goal to have a domain name for the continent. According to the developers, the new domain will awaken the pan-African tech entrepreneurs.
