Ecobank Nigeria introduces money transfer through WhatsApp, SMS

Customers at Ecobank Nigeria can transfer funds via email, WhatsApp, and SMS. This comes as a new set of features on its mobile app. In a statement, Olukorede Demola-Adenyi, the Head of Consumer Banking in Nigeria, described the initiative as an innovative digital banking approach enabling customers to carry out their transactions conveniently. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding customers forced to self-isolate and maintain social distance due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new digital solution allows customers to transfer N50,000 without the need for the beneficiary’s account number. One can initiate the transfer without having to ask for account details.

How to redeem the money sent

  1. Receive the web link sent to the phone as an SMS, weblink, or WhatsApp message
  2. Click on it, choose the bank and provide the account number you prefer
  3. Submit request
  4. Sender account immediately credited

The mobile app has been enhanced to showcase a simple, appealing interface making it easier and convenient for people to transfer funds across different accounts.
