Egypt Manufactures the First Smartphone

In the Cairo ICT 2017 Conference, the first manufactured Egyptian smartphone was unveiled. The smartphone was handed over to the country’s president Abel Fatah al-Sisi by Minister of Communication and Information Technology Yasser El Kady.

The phone was manufactured by the Ministry of Communication in partnership with SICO Technology, and it coasted $22.5 million in investment in the company’s factory in Assiut. The company has five production lines within the country which are separated at a distance of 4, 520 square meters and can produce 1.8 million devices annually. SICO becomes the first local b-mobile brand in the industry as the percentage of the local devices stands at 45%.

The phone is branded as Nilex a 4G network smartphone, and the price is average $112. The phone is expected to start retailing on 15th December 2017. Some of the phones distinct features are a 13-megapixel dual camera, fingerprint sensor, 4GB RAM, 64 GB storage, 5.7 HD display, Android 7.0 Nougat and a fast-charging feature. There are 110% mobile subscribers in Egypt as per January 2017 with 98.8million users. The number that uses the internet is at 26.16 million within the same time of the year.
