In a move to support the vibrant creator community in Kenya, Meta has officially rolled out two key monetization features on its platforms – In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels. This development allows eligible creators in the country to earn money for the video content they share on Facebook.

The integration of Facebook Reels ads seamlessly into the original Reels format enables creators to get paid based on the performance of their engaging, original content. According to Meta, this expansion will empower eligible creators in Kenya to monetize their work, while also setting the bar high for creativity across the world.

Moon Baz, the Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, Middle East, and Turkey (AMET) at Meta, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the incredible African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others, and bring people together. “This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry in Kenya to earn money, whilst setting the bar high for creativity across the world and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop-shop for all creators,” Baz said.

To be eligible for monetization, creators must meet specific requirements, including passing and remaining compliant with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies, as well as being at least 18 years old. For in-stream ads, creators must have a minimum of 5,000 followers.

The in-stream ads feature allows ads to play before, during, or after on-demand videos, whether they are pre-recorded content or a recording of a previous live stream. The types of in-stream ads include pre-roll, mid-roll, image, and post-roll ads.

This latest development comes a few months after Meta had promised these monetization features for content creators in Kenya, further solidifying the company’s commitment to empowering the local creator ecosystem.

By providing these monetization opportunities, Meta aims to empower Kenyan creators to earn from their creativity and content, while also elevating the country’s vibrant creative industry on a global scale. This initiative aligns with Meta’s broader goal of supporting creators and fostering a thriving digital ecosystem across Africa.
