Facebook just launches a marketplace in Nigeria to help people discover, buy and sell items from others in their local communities. This helps check the spread of Covid-19 while boosting their businesses in the process.

Nigeria joins Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and Ethiopia as a new destination where people can tap on a marketplace icon and visit www.facebook.com/marketplace  to browse and search for items based on item and category.

Adaora Ikenze, who is Facebook’s head of Public Policy (Anglophone West Africa) described the company’s ongoing efforts to help in connecting communities. When a user sells an item on Facebook’s marketplace, it creates a public listing anyone can see on the News Feed, Facebook groups, Facebook search, and Search engines. Sellers simply identify a photo of a given item, enter a name, description, price, location, category then post.

Of course, all items must meet Facebook’s community standards and commerce policies. Merchants and sellers should comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
