This year, the Global Entrepreneurship Week runs from 16 to 22 November. Gauteng Accelerator Programme’s innovation competition works to empower innovators with seed funding and development support provided they adopt new technologies that positively impact society while improving the performance of government services. Winners at the Gap competition get to share in the R3 million prize money and R2 million in business support.
This year’s finalists have been chosen and they represent fields in the following categories: Bioscience, Medical, Township Economy, ICT, and Green. The Gauteng Accelerator Township Economy category focuses on nurturing innovations from the townships that will continue to grow and thrive in those townships. Kutsala Publishing was last year’s winner with its indigenous content that children can find relatable.
Other categories are GAP Bioscience (Enables scientists and engineers to pursue opportunities in cutting edge bioscience technologies), GAP ICT (researchers and entrepreneurs working on ICT-based solutions). GAP Medical (identifying and nurturing health innovations that will enhance health service delivery in hospitals). GAP Green scouts for green technological solutions.
