The TownshipTech hackathon & pitch competition is hosted by Cape Innovation & Technology Initiative in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) to create opportunities that shine the spotlight on innovative tech-driven solutions from young entrepreneurs to the daily problems encountered in the townships.

40 creatives convened at the hackathon through a collaboration out of which 6 finalists were selected comprising a team of entrepreneurs, technologists, and innovators who competed in the final pitch at the  Woodstock Bandwidth Barn yesterday.

One of the exciting events was live-streamed at the  Woodstock Bandwidth Barn in the Khayelitsha Bandwidth Barn Facebook page.  Fezeka Mavuso, the General Manager at Khayelitsha Bandwidth Barn expressed “excitement” on how the coaches dedicated their time to assisting the teams while ensuring they achieve their full potential during the competition.

The judging panel comprised of  Ian Merrington (Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative (CiTi), Faith Kolala (City of Cape Town), Bianca Mpahlaza (Department of Economic Development & Tourism (DEDAT), Charmaine Lambert (ABSA), and Ndithini Tyhido (the Khayelitsha Development Forum).
