TechInAfrica – The SA’s Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) is initiating a Fellowship Program aims at enhancing the ICT skills in South Africa. According to André van der Walt, ISPA’s Chairman, the program is part of the effort to bridge the gap in the ICT skills.
“With South Africa under pressure to fill our well-documented ICT skills gap and many skilled professionals leaving our shores every year, the country’s meaningful participation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution seems far from assured,” said van der Walt.
Despite the lack of ICT skilled professionals, ISPA finds its ways to bring positive impacts in South Africa’s ICT landscape for the benefits not only to its members and customers but also for the nation.
“Anyone in the world can apply to become an ISPA Fellow which means that skilled South Africans living elsewhere can potentially play a helpful role with regards to the skills base of their home country,” said van der Walt.
He explained that either established independent Internet professionals who have valuable experience and knowledge or new ICT professionals are welcome to take part in the Fellowship program. The program is expected to bring benefits to its participants, including access to information, ISPA activities, as well as networking opportunities.
ISPA’s members will also get benefits from the program such as gain access to a larger pool of industry professionals. Meanwhile, ISPA Fellows are encouraged to take part as volunteers of ISPA working groups and structures.
The ISPA Fellowship Program is open to anyone who is an Internet industry professional. Moreover, ISPA will also consider inviting potential Fellows at its discretion.
ISPA’s Operations Committee will review applications monthly while fellowship applicants will get a notification if their application is either accepted or declined. The annual fee of the program is R1,200.00 (exclude VAT).
