Kenya Bids to Host the 12th World Chambers Congress (WCC)

Kenya intends to host the 12th World Chambers Congress (WCC). The event has more than 3,000 international delegates. Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) sent its top officials to Beijing China to request for global forum. International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) World Chambers Federation is the event organizer.  The event will take place in July 2021.

The forum brings together professionals and leaders across the world. They do come together to discuss best ways of improving trade and businesses. It is usually held in a span of two years with Nairobi as its headquarter. The targeted audience for the forum is divided into various groups. This is according to KNGGI. The groups are Nairobi Business Community, institutions, and national governments, business communities and regional organizations which has Nairobi as their headquarters.

The country’s bidding committee is led by James Mureu. The committee will spearhead the event in 177 countries connected to ICC using shuttle diplomacy. Hosting event will boost the country’s tourism sector. The sector hit a milestone in 2016 after more than 100 leaders globally visited the country. They visited the country in a different period of time. In 2016 Nairobi hosted the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development. Other events hosted in the same year included the African Green Revolution Forum. it also hosted the Tokyo International Conference on African Development. Moreover, the city hosted the Caribbean and the Pacific Parliamentary Assemblies meeting.

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit in 2015 hosted its 6th event in Nairobi Kenya. Barack Obama who was the US president by then attended the event. Furthermore, WTO Ministerial Conference hosted its 10th forum in Kenyan capital. The event was chaired by Ms. Amina Mohamed who was Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs by that time. To bring the event to Kenya, the committee will use three different approaches. These are enlightening the world on what the conference entails. They will also enroll the participant’s more so important opinion leaders. Furthermore, they will engage different countries through shuttle diplomacy.

Kenya has already set aside the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) as the venue of hosting the event. The center has enough space for hosting the 2021 event. This is according to Nana Gecaga the CEO of KICC. Furthermore, the country is relying on cosmopolitan ratings of Nairobi. The ratings combine Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and European cultures. Many startups that are operational within these regions have their headquarters in Nairobi. The companies include companies that serve many countries and international organizations. Companies with Nairobi as their headquarters are General Motors, Coca-Cola among others.

The country is also depending on the favorable reports by international bodies to convince the attendants. For instance, they include the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Wales and Wales. It released a report named the Economic Insight: Africa Q1 2016. The report highlighted that the country’s economy is on the verge of growing by 6% within the 2017/2022 period. Moreover, Nairobi is a tourist attraction center with Nairobi National Park located there.  Kenya being the host of two main UN programs that is UN-Habitat and UNEP makes the country ideal to host the event. Apart from Rome Nairobi is the only city that hosts UN agencies globally.
