Maramoja is a Kenyan based taxi signaling app that is run by UTU startup. The app’s role comes when one calls to request for taxi services through it. Users get drivers after recommendation by their friends. Friends are also recommended by their friends hence bringing a long chain of network. The company has so far secured contracts with not less than 24 countries across Africa since its launch in 2015. The contract will help the startup take its app in those countries.
Jason Eisen the founder and CEO of the company say that the firm takes drivers as individuals and people with connections and customers rather than just mere commodities. He adds that the only thing that will help promote digital business is having trust in human beings. Currently, the rate of human trust is low given the fact that the system relies on star ratings and many reviews which do not bring the true picture on the human trust depending on their relationship and those they know personally. Therefore, UTU works on incorporating the human trust into the digital industry. Furthermore, it is trying to get the best out of its team by even taking note of their wellbeing. Many tech startups have assumed that fact and they are only after generating profit not keeping in mind the human trust. This makes other not to last longer in the market.
Maramoja has been shortlisted to participate in the Zeroth’s global accelerator program. Furthermore, it has managed to raise an undisclosed amount of money from Venture Partners and Zeroth. According to Zeroth’s founder Tak Lo, Maramoja has secured a strong team. They have already shown that their tech operates across one of the biggest economies in Africa. He showed his satisfaction on working with the startup. Zeroth’s investment in Maramoja is the first one it has carried out with any African startup so far.
