In partnership with Oando Plc, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has stated that the first set of electric buses will be added to the Lagos Mass Transit Master Plan.

The new electric buses are a big deal for the city’s public transportation system because they can go 280 km on a full charge. People in Lagos hope the buses will reduce carbon emissions and make traveling easier and cheaper.

“Thanks to our partnership with @Oando_PLC, the public transportation system in Lagos will be cleaner and better for the environment,” tweeted Governor Sanwo-Olu on Sunday. “Over the next few months, we’ll be running a pilot program to find out how well the current BRT buses work so that we can improve our public transportation,” he said.

The Governor said that the range of the electric buses would be enough to cover the average daily use of 200 km by current BRTs. This means that there is no need to worry that the buses will stop while they are moving.

Lagos State is working with Oando Clean Energy Limited to carefully place Universal Chargers at malls and gas stations to power the electric buses. Soon, the state also plans to open a plant where electric buses will be made.

Electric buses are part of the government’s plan to make the city smarter. Shortly, there are plans to add more electric cars to the fleet.
