MTN and biNu Enable #datafree Services for South Africans

Share

TechInAfrica – MTN has entered a partnership with biNu to enable its subscribers in South Africa to access #datafree websites and apps. This reverse billing model was biNu‘s idea, enabling mobile subscribers to have their data paid by taking part in digital content and application owners.

The partnership enables MTN to offer biNu‘s platform to its client base, expand its reach, and increase engagement with lower communication costs. This changes its customer engagement from call centers and shops/branches to online. This tech model is currently used by a large number of enterprises to enhance their digital training value proportion to their staff members.

MTN launched its proprietary reverse billing service in August last year and ever since, the company has witnessed large take-up from both public and private enterprises seeking to improve their online engagement with customers.

This #datafree services by MTN through biNu‘s platform is not the first nor the only one. Currently, biNu already has reverse billing agreements with other mobile network operators in South Africa, including Cell C, Telkom, and Vodacom.

Christian Wirtz, Executive Enterprise Operations and Solutions at MTN, commented about the #datafree services and the partnership with biNu, “Reverse billing is now a proven model in South Africa. Once banks and universities decided to carry the data costs for their customers, early adopters saw a large increase in consumers using their online portals and banking services.”

Wirtz continued, “MTN, in partnership with biNu, now has an extremely sophisticated platform that enables organizations to nurture loyalty, make informed business decisions from data analytics and allows organizations to maximize their competitive advantage.

“The provision of #datafree apps and websites also supports MTN’s digital inclusion goals, which are also aligned to the Government’s focus on bridging the digital divide,” Wirtz concluded.

In two African countries like Nigeria and South Africa, Binu’s #datafree platform has been used by brands, commercial enterprises, public sectors, and NGOs seeking to engage with various audiences like employees, customers, and prospects. Moreover, commercial publishers looking to enhance their target audience reach and engagement are also using this biNu’s #datafree platform.

The MTNbiNu‘s #datafree partnership currently only covers the South African market with a future plan to expand to other countries.
