On October 4, 2024, MTN Rwandacell Ltd (MTN Rwanda) highlighted its annual Y’ello Care initiative, launched in June 2024, under the theme “Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow: Education for Rural and Remote Communities.” As part of this initiative, several impactful activities were carried out to enhance education in rural areas. These efforts included the provision of solar power to schools, ensuring reliable electricity for learning, and building kitchens to support meal programs, thereby improving both the learning environment and overall well-being of students.

MTN Rwanda recently inaugurated a newly constructed, modern kitchen at GS Bukure after three months of construction. The kitchen will serve nutritious meals to over 1,500 students, significantly improving their well-being and learning experience. By providing access to healthy food, MTN Rwanda aims to support the students’ academic performance and contribute to their physical and cognitive development, further cementing its commitment to empowering future generations through sustainable initiatives. This project exemplifies MTN Rwanda’s dedication to uplifting communities and fostering a brighter future for Rwanda.

“The Y’ello Care initiative allows us to give back to the communities we serve, and building this kitchen is one of the most impactful contributions we could make. We are not only supporting our current community but also investing in Rwanda’s future,” said Mapula Bodibe, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Rwanda.

At MTN Rwanda, education is a key pillar of corporate social investment, as it is seen as a critical driver of both success and development. “This journey starts with proper nutrition, which is why this kitchen was built, to fuel the minds and bodies of our future leaders,” Bodibe continued. In addition to this kitchen, MTN Rwanda has committed to feeding 10,000 students across Rwanda during the 2024-2025 academic year.

In June 2024, Mobile Money Rwanda, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Umwalimu SACCO, launched the ‘Dusangire Lunch’ campaign to support Rwanda’s school feeding program. As part of its Corporate Social Investment, MTN Rwanda has pledged Rwf 30,000,000 towards this initiative, ensuring meals for 10,000 students during the 2024-2025 academic year.

This commitment reinforces MTN’s dedication to nurturing the next generation by ensuring students can focus on their education without the worry of hunger. Through the ‘Dusangire Lunch’ program, MTN Rwanda seeks to create a lasting impact on students’ lives, supporting their health, education, and future success.

“This initiative reflects MTN Rwanda’s unwavering commitment to Corporate Social Investment and underscores our shared responsibility to build a stronger, more prosperous Rwanda,” said Chantal Kagame, Chief Executive Officer of Mobile Money Rwanda. “By supporting the ‘Dusangire Lunch’ program, we are not only providing meals to students but also fostering their potential, education, and dreams. I encourage other organizations and individuals to join this important cause, as investing in a child’s future can begin with something as simple and powerful as one meal. Together, we can make a lasting difference.”
