Vanu, Inc. and MTN Zambia have reached an agreement that will see the former supply up to 300 mobile network sites with the equipment to extend mobile connectivity throughout Zambia.
MTN Zambia, part of the multinational telecoms company MTN Group, will use Vanu’s off-grid network systems to extend its mobile coverage in the country.
The partnership will see hundreds of communities that do not have connectivity to get it. The need is especially crucial at these tough times where the COVID-19 crisis means access to mobile connectivity is critical.
Andrew Beard, the CEO of Vanu Inc., noted that working with MTN Zambia gave it an opportunity to deploy its “cost-effective mobile communications systems on behalf of the MTN Group in Africa.”
He added that MTN Zambia will use Vanu’s systems that employ “OpenRAN compliant architectures.” It will allow the telecom company to reach more people and also see MTN Zambia recognize “multiple new revenue opportunities.”
Vanu’s equipment and services help mobile network providers (MNOs) cut costs related to power, backhaul, and maintenance. As such, MTN Zambia will provide off-grid coverage to more communities profitably.
MTN Zambia will benefit from access to several tools. These include TCO (total cost of ownership) cell sites, mapping tools, and network planning tools.
