TechInAfrica – Over a week ago, the Minister of Information Communications and Technology, Hon. Stanley Simataa, officially approved three out of 21 new network sites in Kavango West, Kavango East, and Zembezi regions.
The network sites are facilitated with 3G network services which were delivered seven network sites for each location as a part of the on-going 081Every1 national network project powered by MTC.
In the Kavango East, the seven network sites are situated in Kakuwa of Mpungu Constituency, Katenture and Ndjarandjara of Ndiyona Constituency, Shamaturu of Mukwe Constituency, Nyangana Hospital of Ndonga Linena Constituency, Baramansoni of Mashare Constituency, Chimpanda of Rundu Rural Constituency, as well as Kayengona of the Rundu Rural Constituency.
In the Kavango West, the network sites are located in Kaukuwa of Mpungu Constituency, Kasera, Bravo, Mangetti, Ncuncuni, Kamupupu, and Sharukuwe.
Meanwhile, in the Zambezi region, the sites are in Mafuta, Sikanjabuka, and Ibbu of the Katima Rural Constituency, Itomba and Mbalasinte of Kabbe South Constituency, as well as Singalamwe in the Kongola Constituency.
The Ministry spoke at the symbolic inauguration event of the sites and said that the new infrastructure gives a significant change which shows approval from the government to facilitate digital services to the citizens of Namibia.
Through the 021Every1 project by MTC, the government uncovers network connectivity and coverage, particularly for those who live in remote areas, thus, promote inclusivity to them.
“Namibia needs to be a smart nation and this can only be achieved if we integrate everyone and embrace the digital movement. Only then we can cease the existence of the digital divide through sustainable and inclusive innovations and modern infrastructure,” said the Minister.
Licky Erastus, the MTC Chief Technology Officer said that MTC will work continuously to make sure that the nation is fully covered with network connectivity. It’s a part of their commitment to providing network connectivity for all the citizens. The company furthermore said that the second phase of 081Every1 project is planned to start athe t the beginning of April this year.
