Share

TechInAfrica – With the constant development of applied science and technology, banking seemed to adopt these frequent changes within embodiments of Fintech—short for financial tech. An asset management company, Nedbank, introduces itself as one of the largest financial services groups in Africa offering wholesale and retail banking services as well as insurance, asset management and wealth management solutions. Through its frontline clusters such as Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking, Nedbank Retail and Business Banking, Nedbank Wealth and the Rest of Africa, Nedbank offers services to South Africa with its headquarters in Sandton.

On Monday, September 2nd 2019, Nedbank officially stated that they have partnered with Microsoft in order to implement a more futuristic, digitally-sustainable financial services platform. This notion is backed by the idea to move its supporting IT infrastructure to the cloud—making the bank the first of its kind to indulge in such movement.

Aligning with the bank’s goal of 2020 digital transformation, the bank also aims to run, transform, and disrupt the business as a part of their three-lane digital strategy. In addition, Nedbank partners with Microsoft considering Microsoft’s capability in managing and supervising large organizations’ needs in the cloud effectively. Not to mention their objectives also align with each other, making the partnership to be more potentially fruitful.

Fred Swanepoel, Nedbank Group Chief Information Officer, spoke:

Transformation is a complex journey, so it is critical to choose partners with a cultural fit, which Nedbank and Microsoft enjoy.

Furthermore, Swanepoel also professed that Nedbank’s data security is crucial and must be trusted with the right hands of the right company. In return, their partners would also need to provide world-class services required to tackle digital problems. In an unjust future that lies ahead of the technology scene, partnerships in the financial sector would be regarded as a wise decision.

Nedbank will utilize all three of Microsoft’s services facilitated to them— Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Dynamics 365.
