Nigeria edtech Teesas, offering video classes and other digital educational materials for learners, has raised $1.6 million in a successful pre-seed funding round led by the Tolaram Group Africa Managing Director Haresh Aswani.

Launched less than 2 motnhs ago, Teesas has experienced a rapid take-off with the startup planing to channel the investments towards scaling into new markets and launching a marketplace linking learners and tutors for private lessons while expanding the product range in its portfolio.

TechCrunch reports that beta testing was launched in August and the startup has over 150,000 downloads at Google’s Play Store. Founder Osayi Izedonmwen further shared that the platform is enjoying a 20% weekly growth-rate.

The edtech offers content in line with Nigeria’s national curriculum and is delivered to learners through either live or recorded formats, through a $6 monthly subscription format. Learners sit with a teacher in small personalized remote classrooms of 10 to 15 students ensuring personalized engagement. The startup will offer full-curriculum modules in the near future for kids up to 12 years. Other features expected to be introduced are life skills that help students in self-discovery. This is in addition to anti-bullying lessons.
