TechInAfrica – Ride-hailing startups have not only been emerging one-by-one, but they’re also experiencing unprecedented growth and advancement as people continue to use their services—promoting mobility, ease of access, and simplicity to get from point A to point B with very affordable pricing. A prime example of this idea is MAX.ng, a Nigerian ride-hailing startup who raised 7 million in collaboration with Yamaha (read the full story here). All in all, ride-hailing startups promises a great future to support mobility in this digital era.

But have you seen a bus-hailing startup?

PlentyWaka, a bus-hailing startup courtesy of CrowdyVest Holdings (CV Holdings) was launched in Lagos. With 25 buses as its starting step of the company’s fleet, PlentyWaka operates mainly on routes between Ajah and CMS, although there are plans to expand to other routes in the coming weeks.

Before you enjoy your first free two rides, however, you would need to download PlentyWaka’s app on iOS App Store or Play Store and book a bus taking their intended route. Then, passengers would need to verify their respective one-time verification number with the one presented by the buses’ assistants. If the codes are a match, passengers are allowed to get on the bus and make their trip.

PlentyWaka’s funding is backed by a company also owned by CrowdyVest Holdings, Crowdyvest—by its sponsors and collaborators. Buses are purchased on behalf of the drivers; and they can rightfully renounce the buses as theirs after three years of service on the company.

Cited from their site, PlentyWaka offers users the following key benefits:

  1. Know when your bus is arriving with real-time tracking enabled.
  2. Bus schedules are made available so you can plan your trips with ease.
  3. Receive departure alarms and stop notifications as you arrive at your bus stop.
  4. Professionally trained drivers and vehicle assistants are assigned to each bus so you can arrive at your destination safe and sound.
