Accountee, a cloud accounting site, based in Nigeria won the MEST Africa Challenge on 21st June 2018. The startup won inaugural worth $50,000. The event took place at the Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa. Accountee received stiff competition from Cowtribe, a Ghanian agritech startup. The other startups that were competing for the prize were, Data Integrated, a fintech firm from Kenya and Swift Vee, a livestock trading platform, based in South Africa.
The four startups held a pitching competition that saw the Nigerian based startup emerge as the overall winner of the grand prize. Adegboye Henry, business developer at Accountee said during the pith that the startup has a total of 200 accountants on its platform. He added that the platform has a total of 9,000 users across 72 countries. According to Henry, Accountee has 14% users who make payments and a monthly growth of 9.6%.
Accountee stands out amongst another accounting platform since it offers its services both online and offline. The prize will help the platform to reach out to many customers by expanding its rate of service delivery. Furthermore, Accounteee becomes the first startup that MEST is investing in that is not part of its portfolio of companies. This will be the first time for MEST to do such which is a definite idea to most of the companies that are not in the position to get investors. The move also shows the commitment of different organizations or investors in ensuring that local startups get the desired tools to help them grow their ventures further.
Henry said that Accountee is in search of investment and also the partnership. He also added that the startup is looking forward to expanding its services in Kenya before the end of this year.
