Nokia Open Innovation Challenge 2019 Calls for Innovators with Offerings Up to $175K

TechInAfrica – Nokia Open Innovation Challenge 2019 is a worldwide innovation competition organized by Nokia. The competition offers up to $175,000 to innovators who utilize AI for industrial automation. The winning startups will get a chance to develop their innovation with experts from Nokia and the Nokia Bell Labs.

This year’s competition is targeting Industrial Automation. Nokia is looking for startups that develop disruptive automation technology for virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and others.

Marcus Weldon, President of Nokia Bell Labs, stated: “We believe that in the coming fourth industrial revolution, a convergence of operations technology (OT) and information and communication technology (ICT) will catalyze the wide-scale automation in all industries and infrastructure.”

The focus is on Industrial Automation with various categories, including:

  • Multi-Robot Collaboration
  • Human Augmentation (Augmented/Mixed/Virtual Reality)
  • Digital Personal Assistant
  • Human Machine/Machine-Human
  • Edge Computing
  • AI Application and Technologies

Applicants will be judged based on three main criteria including innovativeness, feasibility, and scalability of their ideas according to the category requirements. Three winning startups with the best solutions will be awarded cash prizes of $100k, $50k, and $25k.

Participants will get business and technology support for their innovations. They will also have an investments chance from Nokia and access to Nokia network and global market. Additionally, they will get an opportunity to co-innovate and create a business partnership with Nokia.
