Opay Aims at Making Mobile Payments Easier in Kenya

Kenyan population is embracing the use of mobile money at a higher rate. Most of the country’s population is using mobile money to pay their bills and make various purchases. The mode of payment has been seen as a convenient and easily accessible since 80% of the population in the country has got mobile phones.

Opera Soft has developed a web-enabled payment system Opay which gives the users a chance to make mobile money payments and have credit card services which include mobile credit purchases and bill payments. The technology which is integrated into Opera Mini browser will benefit Kenya to continue with a large number of mobile payment technology acceptances in the world this was according to Nuno Sitima, Executive Vice President of Payments and Fintech, Opera Software AS.

The main goal according to Opera is to increase the growth of businesses in Africa through a simple, affordable solution that can beset some payment methods in a single app that will make it easy to use. Kenya is seen as one of the leading countries in Sub Saharan Africa with the highest rate of mobile internet growth connected with mobile money has boosted its urge as a growth market for web payment service and the mobile payment community.

60% of the Growth Domestic Product of Africa relies on the informal sector in many Africa states, and there is a huge call to digitalize the business. The payments, in that case, should, therefore, be made easier and secured which will help in covering many holes in the service delivery and infrastructure in the country.
