OpenAI Launches $200/Month ChatGPT Pro Plan for Engineers and Academics

ChatGPT, OpenAI’s AI-driven chatbot platform, now offers a new subscription plan.

To explore new commercial applications of its AI technology, OpenAI has launched a $200/month subscription plan for ChatGPT, its AI-powered chatbot platform, targeting the engineering and academic sectors.

OpenAI’s existing ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscriptions will be joined by a new tier, ChatGPT Pro. This move underscores the company’s efforts to further commercialize its technology, which has been a driving force behind the AI boom.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Pro will provide users with unlimited access to its latest technologies, including the new reasoning model o1, o1 small, GPT-4o, and advanced voice features. The subscription also includes O1 Pro Mode, which utilizes increased processing power to handle more complex queries.

OpenAI states that the O1 Pro Mode surpasses the O1 and O1-preview versions in machine learning benchmarks across math, science, and coding.

Jason Wei, a member of OpenAI’s technical team, remarked, “We believe ChatGPT Pro will appeal to power users — those who are already pushing the models to their limits in tasks such as math, programming, and writing.”

Soon, O1 will be available through OpenAI’s API, introducing new features such as image analysis and function calling (enabling the use of external tools). OpenAI also announced that web browsing, file uploads, and additional features will be rolled out in the coming months.
