Pick n Pay announced the use of machine learning to automate personal discounts for their smart shoppers. This move will help customers save more on their grocery shopping.

Pick n Pay uses advanced technology to offer every shopper 8 special discounts every two weeks. The discounts depend on the customer and involve cash savings, boosted points and discounts on products frequently purchased.

Technological improvements translate to customers who don’t have to activate their discounts as was the case previously. To receive the discounts, customers should permit accessibility on their contact details and update their personal preferences via the website, app, or kiosks.

As of July 14, 2020 discounts are automatically applied for smart shoppers. Loyalty programmes offer real value where possible. According to Bradshaw, the future of the loyalty programme is to provide real value.

According to Tech Times Africa, the marketing retail executive John Bradshaw said, “This algorithm predicts what a customer is likely to buy and helps us work in conjunction with our partners to give customers personalized savings on the items they want or plan to buy.”

“All Smart Shoppers are earning and spending their points but many weren’t reaping the full rewards of the programme by not regularly loading the personalized discounts. This improvement will instantly help put money back in customer’s pockets at a time when budgets are under pressure.”
