Report: African pay TV subscriptions reach 51 million

A report by Digital TV Research shows the number of Pay-TV subscribers across Africa rise between 2021 and 2026 to 51 million. Nigeria alone accommodates about 11 million while South Africa brings hosts 9 million.

According to Simon Murray, the principal analyst at Digital TV Research, Multichoice has over 15.51 million subscribers on its satellite TV platforms DSTV and DTT Gotv. The number is expected to rise to 19.67 million in 2026.

China’s StarTimes/StarSat has also recorded phenomenal growth from 10.11 million subscribers and is expected to hit 16.86 million in 2026. Vivendi from France boasts 5.41 million subscribers on the Canal Plus satellite TV platform while Easy TV is expected to grow to 7.90 million subscribers in 2026.
