TechInAfrica – South Africa lockdown from last year has impacted the operation of licensing centers that put temporarily to a halt, which has made many licenses unable to be renewed before their expiration date.
Citizens with motor vehicles still have time until 31 August 2021 to renew their driving licenses, temporary driving licenses, and professional driving licenses if their expiration date was between 26 March 2020 and 31 December 2020, as announced by The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
The RTMC also strongly advised them to make the renewal immediately.
“Do not wait until the exact expiry date before considering to renew your vehicle or driving license. Allow at least four weeks lead time from date of application for the delivery of your driving license card,” RTMC explains. This is to prevent motorists from being charged with additional costs when they missed the deadline and having to create a temporary driving license instead of the driving license one.
The organization also informs that citizens have to prepare for an original ID and a copy of their driving license card, or a valid passport of South African, four black and white ID photographs, Proof of residence, and license renewal fee when applying for the renewal.
