SafeBoda, the East African 2-wheeler ride-hailing company is finally exiting the Kenyan market. The decision was communicated on its Twitter platform arguably due to operational challenges since the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
SafeBoda argues that the Boda Boda business has borne the brunt of the pandemic. Generally, the transport sector is recovering but the company is yet to achieve sustainability. The e-mobility startup has been operating in Nairobi and has complemented the e-taxis with convenience and flexibility.
Among the Covid-19 protection measures are maintaining a one-meter social distance which only gets harder when riding a motorcycle. Many have continued to use the rides but the numbers are not enough to meet a sustainable bottom-line. Operations throughout Nigeria and Uganda will remain on. In Kenya, normal SafeBoda will officially cease to exist on the 27th of November.
This was a hard decision for us to make but we are still dedicated to empowering communities. Thank you for being a part of the #NduthiGang. We love you🧡 pic.twitter.com/AsuB5j6tWn
